Look at it this way:

A satellite costs around 50 mil bucks, last for 6 years and is carrying say
40 transponders with 40 MBps bandwith (at most).
Works out a transponder rent to 150.000 USD a month. At 20 USD monthly
subscription it should serve at least 7000 customers to show a profit ( or
30.000 users per 4 EOL 4 transponders). The bandwith will be then 5 kbps per
customer. Not very much, isn't it?
The point is there is no such thing as cheap satellite Internet broadband.
Satelites are good at broadcasting/multicasting (as many people will get the
same data), hence EOL move to multimedia content.
Fiber is the only way to get fast cheap Internet access. A typical fiber
cable can transport up to 1 Tbps (12 fibers * 80 Gbps using DWM), last for
decades at least and is very cheap ( starting below 2 USD/m). Thet's how
brodband (Mbps) unlimited consumer Internet access in developed (read:
competitive) contries is now less then 50 USD/month.
Sat Internet is strictly for those where fiber access is not available
(either not present or having monopoly pricing).
