Yes, I did verify that. I also hooked up a CDROM drive to the same port
for testing and it worked fine. However, I noticed something strange
with the cable I used, so I will replace that today and see if it was a
HW issue ...

Did you set you re volume for the line in? could be muted. use a mixer
programm to unmute.
