I looked into EON over a year ago and even back then it was the same
thing: Sometimes download speeds were below ISDN. A pure waste of time.

I agree that German Telekom's "DSL via Satellite" currently provides
good download rates. They appear to have implemented a few good ideas.
For example, it seems like they give you a high bandwidth for the first
few blocks of a file, which will in part make up for the poor response
times of a satellite link.

On the downside,

* There is no Linux support.
Have you managed to get it running under Linux?

* The price is very high.
You have to pay for ISDN (which is laready more expensive
than cable-based DSL) AND you have to pay extra for the
   "DSL via Satellite" service.

*  The bandwidth is limited.
I believe that one transponder provides 8 Mbit/s?
How many transponders will they rent for how many people?
During the pilot phase with a very small number of active
users, this seems to work well, but will they be able and
willing to increase the number of transponders appropriately
   when they get more users?
As we see, EOL failed to do so.
