However I just installed 1.0pre3-3.3.3 to get dvb:/// support and now
the aspect ratio of the video is all wrong (it's squashed horizontally).
That happens whether I use dvb:/// or redirect in the raw data as above.
It happens on multiple channels too (in Australia).

Maybe the station transmits non standard video??

Please, upload a short sample (3MB) in ftp://www.mplayerhq.hu/MPlayer/incoming
and tell me the name of the file.

I uploaded hamishdvb.mpg to that directory. Here's the output (stdout &
stderr) from mplayer. I note that it says

"The selected video_out device is incompatible with this codec."

using "-vo xv" does fix the problem, as Vincenzo Di Massa suggested.
That seems strange to me though, and it did work in pre2.

thanks

VDec: using Planar YV12 as output csp (no 0)
Movie-Aspect is 1.78:1 - prescaling to correct movie aspect.
VO: [x11] 720x576 => 1024x576 Planar YV12 SwScaler: using unscaled Planar YV12 -> BGR 32-bit special converter

The file is perfectly fine.

Just today I read that the DVB card accepts only up to 720x576 mpeg streams,
so that 1024x576 is excessive; read the man page regarding dvbscale.
