I'm sure I've read (on this list I believe) that after you tune your DVB
card with szap the card will lose the frequency after a few seconds.
This indeed is easily observable. If you don't keep szap running the
card loses the frequency with several seconds. I believe that some
method has been offered on how to prevent this. Does anyone here know
what that might be?

options dvb-core dvb_shutdown_timeout=0
BTW, I'm not sure what this timeout is good for at all. IMHO one
either wants the frontend power to stay on when the frontend
is closed (i.e. power down only when someone explicitly uses the
appropriate ioctl), or one wants to power down immediately.

You can shorten the initialisation time after powerup because you might not need to reload the firmware in case you pass control over the DVB devices from one application to another.

Thus frontend powerdown can be delayed if necessairy, this was a feature request by the Convergence middleware developers once, don't know whether this is still required...
