Hi,

I am 80% of the way through Mac drivers for this card (actually for the
DVICO FusionHDTV II). In fact they are all written, but when it came to
testing if the last part of them worked, my only tester discovered that he
could get no digital signals in his area (testing with the card in a
Windows machine).

So far the uploading of the firmware to the card and the initialisation of
the DSP (/frontend/whatever) works fine ... also i can pull all the signal
stats out of it ... but I do not know if I am sending the right stuff to
the tuner since I have no signals to attempt to tune :)

This all happened a couple of months ago. My tester did say that he might
move into an area where his Mac could get signals in May, so I will be
following this up when I have time.

With working Mac OS X drivers it would be a simple matter to port them to
linux ... assuming you have the card! Since I am in Australia and there's
not a lot of ATSC around here the development was not easy - kind of like
the CAM driver development I've seen go by on this list recently :)

Currently my efforts are in no fit state to be released - I want to get it
working first then I'll figure out the best structure to use for it - but
if someone is really keen to write the linux driver then I could be
convinced to make it legible :)

My grand plan of course was to really have them finished and working some
months ago, and then I'd be able to actually contribute something to the
linux-dvb project instead of just benefiting from all your hard work...
but maybe it could still happen 8)

I contacted DVICO but they did not reply to any of my queries. Instead I
was able to gather the necessary information from the component
manufacturers. I was quite surprised that they were (so) helpful!

btw Why you might ask am I writing drivers for a card I cannot possibly
use? The answer is that it is a strategic move to increase the need to
decode HD-sized MPEG2 on Macs, which will hopefully prod Apple into
opening up their low-level 'DVD' playback API - so you don't need a dual
proc Mac (like mine :) just to watch HDTV, when every Mac shipped for the
last 5 years has a video card in it that can do it standing on its ear!
(ok slight exaggeration - maybe less than 5 years, but still...)

btw2 My Mac driver/dvb site is at <http://www.defyne.org/dvb/>
