No, the video out is not an extension of the desktop - it can only be
used by feeding the onboard mpeg-decoder with a mpeg1/2 stream. So what
mplayer basically does is reencoding any non-mpeg1/2 material on the fly
into mpeg1. This, of course, needs a fast CPU (> 1GHz).
