Ok, more information; in my original message, I had stated that I was using
the (10/8/04) CVS dvb-kernel - that was a typo, I had intended to state that
it was the (11/08/04) CVS dvb-kernel (on kernel 2.6.10-rc1-bk12).

(As the smarter people than I have implied, the kernel 2.6.10-rc1-bk12's i2c
may be "broken" in regards to the dst frontend?)

Today, I compiled that same (11/8/04) CVS dvb-kernel in the
gentoo-dev-sources 2.6.9-r3 kernel and the DST module is loading correctly
as follows (also included is the failing CVS dvb-kernel on 2.6.10-rc1-bk12
with dst module loading with dst_debug=1):
