[linux-dvb] Re: lots of TS continuity errors + SuSE 9.1

Hello,

I am getting lots(!) of TS continuity errors on my system when I record for example ZDF. Oct 31 00:20:00 racoon vdr[8435]: cTS2PES got 0 TS errors, 173 TS continuity errors
Oct 31 00:20:00 racoon vdr[8435]: cTS2PES got 0 TS errors, 108 TS continuity errors
Oct 31 00:20:00 racoon vdr[8435]: cTS2PES got 0 TS errors, 155 TS continuity errors

Everything worked fine with SuSE 8.x. No problems at all. The problems started with upgrading to SuSE 9.1. Almost every channel reproduces the errors but ZDF is the worst.

Viewing the live picture via vdr is just fine. No errors, no skipping. But as soon as I start a recording the live picture starts to skip and I am getting these continuity errors. Needless to say, that the recordings are useless.

I seems not be a bad signal issue because everything worked fine with SuSE 8.x and femon reports no errors:
using '/dev/dvb/adapter0/frontend0'
FE: STV0299/TSA5059/SL1935 based (SAT)
status 1f | signal b194 | snr d0e3 | ber 00000000 | unc 00000000 | FE_HAS_LOCK
status 1f | signal b2b4 | snr d107 | ber 00000000 | unc 00000000 | FE_HAS_LOCK
status 1f | signal b1a5 | snr d11c | ber 00000000 | unc 00000000 | FE_HAS_LOCK
status 1f | signal b2be | snr d09e | ber 00000000 | unc 00000000 | FE_HAS_LOCK

I tried to set "options dvb_ttpci hw_sections=1" in /etc/modprobe.conf.local but that didnt help.

My tv card is Hauppage Nexus-s:
0000:00:0a.0 Multimedia controller: Philips Semiconductors SAA7146 (rev 01)

I upgrade the dvb and vdr packages from the suse upgrade package:
dvb-1.1.0_CVS20040812-5
vdr-1.2.6-80
But that also didnt help either.

Since the errors only occur while vdr is doing a recording, I strongly believe that this is an software issue of some sort.
Please help! I am very disappointed that SuSE 9.1 has broken my vdr installation!
same here (on all channels) with my Terratec 1200 dvb-c budget card and debian sid. (kernel 2.6.9)

vdr[14908]: recording thread ended (pid=14908)
vdr[23873]: cTS2PES got 0 TS errors, 247 TS continuity errors
vdr[23873]: cTS2PES got 0 TS errors, 9 TS continuity errors
vdr[23873]: cTS2PES got 0 TS errors, 33 TS continuity errors
vdr[23873]: buffer stats: 205860 (3%) used

i think there is something wrong in ringbuffer implementation, so data will be overwritten with new one before vdr can save them. (or decoded by mplayer/xine/kaxtv if i view directly)

i've tried many things and change pci latency have big impact on data loss rate. but i've never got it to zero loss rate.
