The right EON server has to be set as proxy of course. You should not have to specify the MAC. The DVBDevice option should suffice to figure this out. I also only tested this with a DVB card and ISDN connection in the same computer. If you are connected to the net differently, e.g. the DVB card is in a computer behind a firewall with masquerading, it will probably not work like this yet. What kind of PCI bridge does the Pentamedia use? However, I will be happy to talk to anybody who is writing a Linux driver for a DVB card so that we can agree on a common API. I try to make the API as genenral as possible while keeping compatible with the existing Vide4Linux API. Some parts, e.g. the = bitfilters, are probably still a little to specific to the Siemens card. But this can still be changed easily (not too many applications exist yet). The important parts of the Telemann driver are not open source. So, I don=B4t know what kind of API they are using. Driver for the Siemens card checks if you have the "right" card by reading EEPROM (lines 139,140 in VES1893.c). If so it initiates VES1893 (line 163), if not it marks EEPROM with 0xb6 at address 0xce (line 153). This init in VES1893.c works on my Hauppauge DVBs card: int init(struct i2c_client *client) { int i; printk("VES1893: init chip\n"); if (writereg(client, 0, 0)<0) printk("VES1893: send error\n"); for (i=0; i<54; i++) writereg(client, i, Init1893Tab[i]); writereg(client, 0x1a, 0x1); return 0; } I would be grateful for information what exactly should be written to VES1893 at address 0x1a. I noticed two problems with patched driver (Hauppauge DVBs, P200MMX, RedHat 6.1): - 'cat test.pva > /dev/video' hangs the computer, - the same problem with osdtest as Klaus Schmidinger described. You can use 0x21. This selects DVB mode (Bit 0), QPSK mode (Bit 1), 10^7 bits for Viterbi output Bit Error Rate computation (Bits 4 and 5). The bit error rate computation is only for statistical purposes and does not affect the decoding process. I have a Nokia DBox with DVB2000 and use it to receive quite a few DVB satellite streams and pass them onto my PC thourgh SCSI I'm interested in getting one of the DVB boards that this software has been written for (The Siemens one) and helping out with the development. I write C/C++ code for a living. If you're able to sell me one of these boards, please let me know. To answer an earlier question about Echostar, they encrypt their stuff. You would need a CAM (Conditional access module) and smart card that has been autorized by Echostar (Dish network) to receive their programming. Since they will only authorize their own receivers, and the Seimens board (to my knowledge) has to ability to attach a CAM, you cannot use these boards for that. There are, however, a number of other clear MPEG streams that are availble in the USA which I'm interested in, both for video and data purposes. Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Lines: 29 Xref: sparkle mail.dvb:42 mail.linuxdvb:63 I am currently experimenting with the OSD features of the Siemens card and found that there is apparently a limit to the size of the OSD windows. I can create a window with a size of 400x118, but anything above that (like 400x119) doesn't work. I can, though, create a window with e.g. 300x150, so my guess would be that the limit applies to the total number of pixels. This is pretty unfortunate, since I was hoping to be able to implement an on-screen menu system for setting and switching channels, managing timers and recordings etc. For this I would need OSD windows that cover pretty much the entire screen. Can I somehow overcome (or increase) this window size limit? How many windows can there be? Any time I create a window with a number greater than 2, the system comes to a complete freeze (only a hardware reboot helps then). This needs to be done anyway to allow 2 bit deep full size overlay for the DVD menues. The memory is generally very tight on the card. Most of it is used for MPEG decoding. If this were possible, my program could always write complete pages and wouldn't need to implement mechanisms for moving a cursor around etc. Or is this already possible and I just haven't figured it out yet? > The memory is generally very tight on the card. That would be an acceptable compromise :-) I would only need full screen OSD windows when no recording or playback is going on (I assume when you say "playback" you mean playing back a file that was recorded on disk earlier, not displaying the currently received programme directly?!). When in Record or Playback mode a smaller menu window would be sufficient for displaying the very few options one has in such a mode. So if you could implement a mode that allows to have full screen windows with many colours in non-playback/record mode, I would vote for that! > You also could solder a 4MB DRAM instead of the 2MB on the board ... Those are SMT devices, right? That would be very difficult, I guess. Plus it would void the manufacturers warranty :-( Does Siemens deliver these cards with 4MB DRAM? If so, and If I had known that, I would have preferred more memory... I'm wondering if there is work being done by anybody to implement an on-screen menu system that allows selecting and modifying channels, programming timers and managing a directory structure of recordings. This is pretty much what I'm trying to do (and which I'd be glad to share, once it works). Does anybody know of such a project? The firmware supports 16 Windows, 8 hardware and 8 virtual. Does anybody know of such a project? Support for recording and selecting files for playback will go into the gVideo application. For timed recordings you would of course want something which also runs in the background without X11. At work, the Linux driver for the Siemens/Fujitsu work perfectly. At home, it does not sync at all. Both of them are with RedHat Linux 6.1, XFree 4.0 (3.9.17). At work I have a QDI B1S, PII 400, 128Mb, GeForce, Yamaha744 DS-XG At Home I have a ABIT BP6, Dual Celeron 433, 192Mb, GeForce DDR, Yamaha 744 DS-XG The Boards was manufactured in the same stock, since their MAC address is the same except for the last nibble. At Home I've tried with SMP and UP kernels, from 2.2.10 to 2.3.29 I've tried the firmware sent with the drivers, and the one with the TechnoTrend drivers. Another difference is that at work I have a fixed dish to Astra directly connected to the board, while at home I have a motorized dish (H-H with Diseqc 1.2) and a signal splitter to use both the Board and a Nokia MM 9200. I think that in linux, the board does not take the control of the switch. In Windows, of course, it work perfectly. Ralph, this is with the latest build. I'm also looking on implementing the Diseqc 1.2 protocol to use the my rotor, if no-one else is working on it. Please let me know. Linuxtv.org is about Linux and digital video, not > about proprietary software, marketing and other boring things. I'm glad to hear this. Driver for the Siemens card checks if you have the "right" card by reading EEPROM (lines 139,140 in VES1893.c). If so it initiates VES1893 (line 163), if not it marks EEPROM with 0xb6 at address 0xce (line 153). Which file/application should i start to get a picture/ do my sat-login? I guess you compiled and installed the driver as decribed in DVB/INSTALL? For watching Astra channels then copy the file xtvrc.astra to ~/.xtvrc (also as described in DVB/INSTALL) and then compile and start gVideo. If you use an X11 with 32bpp you might have to use "-b 32" as an option. For connecting to EON just configure CyberLogin.ini, and compile and start CyberLogin. You have to configure your browser to use the EON proxy of course. But you should know that from the installation info you got with your EON account. Right now only transponder 114 is usable. But you can change that in CyberLogin.c. The next version will allow to select the transponder in CyberLogin.ini. I can see the following problems: 1. Hardware differences (since the layouts seem the same, this can be only very minor differences. 2. Software (firmware?) differences. As far as I can see, all the firmware is uploaded by the driver, and should be the same for all cards used. This rules out problem nr 2. This leaves problem 1. Since the boards look identical, I assume the only difference can be in components used. Since the problems mentioned with the other cards were tuner problems, my guess is that not all tuners are working/supported yet under the linux drivers. (Does the tuner type show up in the logs somewere ?) If the only differences are the tuner, the driver should be easily fixable for other cards. If there are major differences, I'll just wait for the technotrend linux driver, which should be out in march. I would like to hear your experiences, Niels de Carpentier P.S. I would like to support siemens for the support they give for linux drivers. However, nobody seems to be able to sell me a siemens card. I spend around 20 phonecalls, and lot of e-mails to find out were to get the card. I haven't found anybody in the netherlands who has heard of the card, not siemens, not its distributors and not the shops that sell siemens computers. Werksverkauf in germany cannot sell me a card to protect local resellers. Apparently they are willing to make an exception for me, but I never heard anything from siemens after they promised me to sell me one through werksverkauf (they did this twice). My siemens contact in germany isn't answering my e-mails anymore, so they leave me no choice. Just for reference the data structure: struct bitfilter { __u16 pid; __u16 data[16]; __u16 mode; __u16 handle; __u16 flags; #define FILTER_UDP 1 #define FILTER_MEM 2 struct in_addr dest; }; pid is obvious, the data bytes specify the filter. The lower 8 bits are the filter mask, i.e. it specifies which bits are checked, the higher 8 bits specify which value those bits should have. So, in the example from CyberLogin.c: struct bitfilter filt = { 0x200, { 0x3eff, 0x00ff, 0x00ff, 0x0000, 0x0000, 0x0000, 0x00ff, 0x00ff, 0x00ff, 0x00ff, 0x0000, 0x0000, 0x0000, 0x0000, 0x0000, 0x0000}, 0x1c,0 }; The 0x3eff is the section header. The 2 bytes following this would be the section length. But since filtering for them would not make much sense, they are left out. So, the next byte in the data[16] field is byte 3 of the section data which specifies one MAC byte, etc. For details refer to the corresponding ETSI document. The mode is as specified in comcode.h. So, yes, I should have written SECTION_HIGH_SPEED instead of 0x1c. The flags only refer to SI (not IPMPE) data right now. Here you can specify if it should be transferred through UDP sockets or through a character device (currently /dev/vbi but this will probably change to something like /dev/dvbsi), So, if the filter is programmed right, you should be able to get multicast data. But I will build this into the multicast handling of the network driver in one of the next versions. Ralph
