Maybe you got a hint for me, 2 things are bugging me right now: -1- I can playback DVD's just fine, PAL as well as NTSC, but my self-burned DVD-R's ( using a Pioneer DVR-A03 ) do not play, vdr complains about the ifo file not beeing found ?! When i mount a regular DVD and compare to my DVD-R, i can see that the directory & filenames on my DVD-R are all uppercase while many of the commercial DVD's have lowercase filenames, is that a track to the solution of the problem ??? the other Problem: -2- I can playback NTSC movies just fine on my regular TV Set, but when i use my other one, the image is Black and white, as this TV does not support NTSC. But from playing with a Hollywood+ Card i know that it supports PAL60, is the DVB-S able ( and how can i make it ) to play NTSC as PAL 60 ??? That would be sleek :) Thanks for any hints/infos, Nils From linux-dvd-bounce@linuxtv.org Thu Jan 24 10:36:14 2002 Return-Path: Delivered-To: mhonarc@limes.convergence.de Received: (qmail 5363 invoked by uid 0); 24 Jan 2002 10:36:14 -0000 Received: from chambertin.convergence.de (212.84.236.2) by limes.convergence.de with SMTP; 24 Jan 2002 10:36:14 -0000 Received: from localhost ([127.0.0.1] helo=chambertin) by chambertin.convergence.de with esmtp (Exim 3.33 #2 ) id 16Th5h-0005xF-00; Thu, 24 Jan 2002 11:26:45 +0100 Received: with LISTAR (v0.129a; list linux-dvd); Thu, 24 Jan 2002 11:26:29 +0100 (CET) Received: from pd9eb09c3.dip.t-dialin.net ([217.235.9.195] helo=wintermute) by chambertin.convergence.de with TLSv1:DES-CBC3-SHA:168 encrypted esmtp (Exim 3.33 #2 ) id 16Th5R-0005x4-00 for ; Thu, 24 Jan 2002 11:26:29 +0100 Received: from szymon by wintermute with local (Exim 3.33 #1 (Debian)) id 16Th3q-0002LK-00; Thu, 24 Jan 2002 11:24:50 +0100 Date: Thu, 24 Jan 2002 11:24:50 +0100 From: Szymon Polom To: Nils Heidorn Cc: linux-dvd@linuxtv.org Subject: [linux-dvd] Re: DVD Playback works fine except 2 things: DVD-R and PAL 60 Message-ID: <20020124102449.GA7697@wintermute> Reply-To: Szymon Polom References: <20020124085723.GA19904@ulima.unil.ch> Mime-Version: 1.0 Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Disposition: inline In-Reply-To: User-Agent: Mutt/1.3.26i X-Operating-System: Linux wintermute 2.4.17 Sender: X-listar-version: Listar v0.129a Sender: linux-dvd-bounce@linuxtv.org Errors-to: linux-dvd-bounce@linuxtv.org X-original-sender: polom@convergence.de Precedence: bulk X-list: linux-dvd Hello Nils, Quoting Nils Heidorn (nils@nils-heidorn.com): > Maybe you got a hint for me, 2 things are bugging me right now: Please note that linux-dvd@linuxtv.org is mainly related to DVD products developed by convergence (e.g. LSI PCMICA DVD driver or some stuff we did not release yet). In shouldn't make a difference at application level because the DVD Video Standard allows both uppercase and lowercase names for directories and files. But if the DVD part of VDR only looks for uppercase entries this could be the problem (just an assumption). I guess the real problem is that there are 2 different DVD File System Specifications: for DVD-ROM and DVD-R (beside of the General/Authoring Versions and the DVD-RAM & DVD-RW Versions). I suppose that the specifications are different on some topics and that the Open Source Linux solutions only "comply" to the DVD-ROM Version. > the other Problem: > -2- I can playback NTSC movies just fine on my regular TV Set, but when i > use my other one, the image is Black and white, as this TV does not support > NTSC. > But from playing with a Hollywood+ Card i know that it supports PAL60, is > the DVB-S able ( and how can i make it ) to play NTSC as PAL 60 ??? > That would be sleek :) Maybe one of the driver developers can make a statement on this. You could try mplayer which recodes NTSC mpegs to playback as PAL, but that can sometimes be ugly.
