A useful step would be a tty-"driver" to OSD.
So all this stuff could be done with separate applications.
VDR is just only one of several app that uses the OSD.
Something similar (identical) to "screen" may switch between.

Else this would become an endless patching storry.

There are no pages that contains "flash etc." which you will
miss if you could not see them.
