[vdr] minidvd playback/producing from vdr streams

Hi !

I renamed the thread as it really changed :)

-1- MiniDVD WORKS with vdr !!!

I just produced one and it is currently playing fine on my vdr box.

Adressing the question of Gregoire:
( Please bear with me, i will only refer to windows Software, if you know
linux Soft that can do the same as the following tools, please name them and
help us all )

To Produce it, you need a DVD-Mastering Software, like dvdmaestro or mydvd,
or ...

I do not know a opensource/Free Tool to do so.

If you have such a tool, this is what to do:

-1- I demux the .vdr file to a "good" audio and video file with using
pvastrumento (www.offeryn.de), it is a windows tool.

This tool analyses the .vdr stream and tries to correct errors, a GREAT
Tool.

-2- import the .mpa & .mpv file in your dvd authoring software add menu's,
chapters, whatever to your own taste and "compile" the movie, which normally
ends up with an UDF image file or at least with a "VIDEO_TS" Folder on your
Harddrive.

--> Problem:
Many dvb Broadcasts are sent in a non DVD conform Resolution.
Pal DVD's are allowed to carry 352x576 or 720x576 Resolution, most DVB
Broadcasts are in 480x576.

2 Solutions:

(1) reencoding your non-conform video file to match a DVD Resolution ( using
tmpgenc or reempeg or commercial Software )
(2) using the non-conform resolution and hoping that your DVD Player can use
it.
THAT is what i do, my DVD Standalone ( and vdr too ) can eat non-conform
Resolutions !

BUT if you try to import non-conform Resolution in your DVD-Mastering
Software, many Softwares will complain and not allow it.
So you have to use a trick, download "AVestensione" also from www.offeryn.de
( my god, thanks for your work, wiljo ) and patch the first mpeg header of
your file to "look" conform, THEN import the file to your authoring
software.

Patch the video file back before "compiling" the udf image/ VIDEO_TS
directory and all works out fine ...

-3- Burn the image to DVD/miniDVD with your favourite Software ( e.g.
Primodvd or Nero, i am sure there is a linux tool too, forgive me, i am a
mac/windows user except vdr ), and there you are !

I hope that helps, help texts and usage info's for wiljo's tools ( they are
pretty self explanatory ) are also found on www.offeryn.de .
