Some more thoughts to have a high quality deinterlaced output on video 
projectors, screens...

I wonder if the following would be possible:

1. synchronous grabbing an image (eventually composed of two half-frames) 
with v4l
2. copying the even fields in one and the odd in another memory location
3. use the Xv-scaler to display the even frame in fullframe by vertical 
scaling twice as much
4. wait 25 ms
5. display the odd frame the same way
6. continue with 1

If the output of the graphics card is set to 50Hz (or other multiples) and 
the output is synchronized it should look great.

It would'nt take up much CPU-cycles...
