It's "etched" in the copper on the component side 
at the upper right margin of the board.
Maybe you can see it with out removing the card,
but you need to open the box.
Sometime it's hidden by a sticker with the serial number.


But you can aproximate it at the slot:

There are 6 Types

1. 1.3 the "full" card: supports SVHS and RGB
2. 1.5 ?crippeled card: only composit out
3. 1.6 crippeled card: only composit out on a Cinch-Plug, Texas Audio
4. 2.1 crippeled card: only composit out on a Mini-DIN but RC-sensor
5. Nova: Most crippled card no video out, no cAM
6. Nova-new(?) crippled card no video out, CAM.

Somewhere in the net there are images of the different boards.
