Hmm - maybe really :-)

The genindex code could be modified to point to CD sectors instead of
file positions. However it could take some time to create an index file
for a (S)VCD but once done this could be stored on the HD using a
typical fingerprint of each CD to create a unique filename. VCD replay
could also become somehow independent from various flavours of xxVCDs
and inconsistencies...

OTOH it could be easier to use the indexing information stored on the
(S)VCD or do an live analysis of the MPEG data while replaying to save
time and diskspace.

I'll consider both possibilities.
