Hi,

thanks, i figured out how to do the trick.
I had to use TMPEGEnc and do a "inverse telecine 3:2 pulldown" (which
changes the framerate from 29.97 to 24),
and then speed it up to 25 fps (also done by TMPEGEnc)
and add (more) black borders to get from 352x240 -> 352x288
(i have done this with VirtualDub but should be possible with TMPEGEnc
too).

The transcoding took nearly 2 hours (for 44 min of video :)
but now it looks really great on vdr :) the quality is as good as the
original.
