Looking at the manpage of mencoder tells the same:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
       -divx4opts
       ...
                Option         Description
                ...
                deinterlace    enable deinterlacing
                               (don't use, DivX4 is buggy!)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

So it's known to them... (and a good reason why it's >not< a default option in the patch)
                               
Another question:
Does DIVX-recording work for you without unwanted termination of the data stream or does
it sometime happen that recording aborts without an obvious reason ?
