[vdr] copy mpeg to optical storage

I was interested in software that would copy an MPEG2-DVB broadcast that
was saved onto a hard drive in a satellite box. I want to record the saved
broadcast show on optical storage and delete it from my satellite box. I
would also like to retain the ATSC soundtrack.
I can play the MPEG2 file from the satellite box on my computer by using
the S-VHS input on the video card (nvidia GeForce3 GTS) but all the
software I can find wants to encode the signal as MPEG2 again. Is there a
capture program that just writes a currently playing file to disk?

I'm new to all this (if you couldn't tell) and all I want to do is
basically transfer a file from one box to another box. The problem is that
my satellite box is mostly proprietary and doesn't have a well documented
file structure (the satellite box is a Dish Network PVR-501, for the curious).

Thanks for you time and input. :^)
