[vdr] bt848 frame grabber compatibility

I am now finding a lot of tv tuner cards that are supposed to work with 
bt848 chipset driver.

Can VDR be made to work with these type of cards? They will not likely 
have mpg2 encoding on them, so the issue here is can VDR do the encoding 
in mpg or mpg2 manually? (and could a Via C3 processor handle that in 
real time).
