Fine. VDR is doing it for 16:9 material.

Yes, I was wrong in that point.

That's not what I mean. TV is in 4:3 mode when viewing pictures with
DvbPic. I readjusted the TV set a little bit - and now the visible region
is (measured) quite exactly 4:3 (or 16:9 in 16:9 mode).
For testing, I took a 4:3 DVD with a circular logo - and did a measurement
in still picture mode: width=height.
But when viewing my example JPEG img_106 with a circular window on it
(which is almost exactly circular when measured in pixels (or on the
notebook LCD)), width ~= 1.07 * height. That's around 768/720 = 1.067,
which may be cause of the "problem".
As a second test, I also connected the video output of my digital
camara with the source photo(s) to the TV. There are small nonvisible
margins at the left and right (but also on the top and bottom) -
but the aspect ratio is correct, and the nonvisible areas are noticiably
smaller than with DvbPic.

Hope this helps,
  Lutz
