I would try to read that disk with cdparanoia and then return it. Even if
it was labelled "Will not play on PC/Mac" you just say you were trying to
play it on a Sun and it didn't work. Their copy-protection scheme is not
yet protected by law in most european states, so if you hurry you can
still legally return it. Just claim it's defective.
If it's labelled "AudioCD" anywhere you can also call Phillips, the
originator of the standard. Those CDs do not conform to that standard and
therefore it's illegal to call those Audio CDs.
