Well the current also get through ;o)) It's just a transformer.
What you meant is to galvanically (i.e. not direct connection
between source & sink) seperate the signals. The problem is
that you need to do this for EVERY signal line, which means
video, too. The TV set runs at 15.625KHz. No iron cored
transformer (ferrit would, though) is going manage that. For
video the best would be a TOSLink (which presents some small
problems to DVB Rev 2.1 users ;o))
