[vdr] xine plugin: xine freezes

I'm trying to get vdr and the xine plugin working. But when I start xine, it 
just freezes (and needs a kill -9). I dont seem to be getting any errors 
anywhere..so I'm bit sure where to look next. 
A "cat /video/xine/device0.vdr" prints nothing to the screen - which 
suggests the problem is that I'm not getting any data to the fifo. 
I start vdr using "/usr/local/bin/runvdr -Pxine", and then xine with "xine 
vdr://video/xine/device0.vdr#demux:mpeg_pes" 
I have tried setting "VIDEODIR=/video" within the runvdr script, and tried 
and "export VIDEODIR=/video" (and also tried /video/xine). 
Still nothing. 
Has anyone got any thoughts here??
