[vdr] Re: time-shift patent case?

Quoting Rene Bartsch <ml@bartschnet.de>:

No -
It just proves that the current proceedings are a reason of the system in action:

The patent offices have to earn money and most money they earn if the grant
patents and not if they refuse them... (PO's are IMHO one of the few things that
have to be controlled by states wisely and wide looking)

Wonder why the german patent office is one of the harder ones, whereas the
european or american ones just grant anything.

The biggest problem with patents is that they are against the smaller companies
in practice (because of the costs for proving of being legal) instead of
supporting them as they are once been made for (by protecting their strategical
investions)...

In the very beginning patents were just meant to protect the inventor himself
-usually not even a company.

The supporters of patents claim that expensive new technologies would simply not
being developed if the costs can (only) be supported with years of monopol
selling - at least in software the OS community is disproving them already.
