I know. I have no problems, but other users reported that with vertical
polarization it works reliable and with horizontal polarization it
sometimes doesn't work. I don't know why.

why patching the vdr? Just edit your diseqc.conf. There you can switch
to 18V before sending the command, and after the command (perhaps with a
timeout) you can switch to the right polarization.
