I think is better to create your svcd outside VDR (i don't know the existence of a good plugin for this job...). I use ProjectX to demux .vdr files into elementary streams (mpeg-2 video + mpeg audio or ac3 audio), then reencode them using the appropriate program (I still use windows for these things, sorry...pretty newbie to linux...).
