I know, it´s not a good idea to give stupid tips, but I would
recommend to get rid of the SuSE Kernel.

SuSE applies normally so much patches, that the Kernel is "overpatched".

Try a vanilla 2.4.25 (or later) kernel from kernel.org

As far as I know it supports XFS out of the box.
