I know the answer, I know the answer!!!! =:-D

The BBC is receiving a PAL feed from Portugal and are sticking it in the
middle of a usually wide screen 16:9 stream. So you have black borders
down both sides like when you ask for 4:3 on a 16:9 TV set. Other sports
shows are broadcast as 16:9 or full screen 4:3 depending on the origin.
