[linux-dvb] Where should firmware files stay?

Hi,
Where should firmware files reside?
Yesterday, using a stock 2.6.11.3, I tried to load the firmware
of  tda10046 after having saved the file in
/etc/dvb
and /usr/lib/hotplug
but dmesg always complained that the driver couldn't load the file.
