[vdr] Remote control questions

Hello,
I want to know what are the differences between rcu
and lirc plugins? 
I'm using lirc in this moment and it works fine with
hauppauge remote control but I'm interested in using
other type remote control, is it possible? Could
someone help me with this doubts?
