This worked for the local machine where I have an nvidia controller.  I 
get the same error on my notebook though and it's using an Intel 
graphics driver. 

 xine vdr-socket://192.168.15.10#demux:mpeg.pes

I get no indication that a connection was attempted from anywhere -- I 
can connect using the same command on the same workstation.
