Thanks. That works, umlauts are ok now.

Strange though that Thomas Creutz reported earlier [*] that it worked
without the patch on his system:

Note: I am using e-tobi sources with Ubuntu and

VDR_LANG="de_DE.UTF-8"
VDR_CHARSET_OVERRIDE="ISO-8859-1"
