Hi

That sounds great :-).

Proofreading is good, translation even better. You could also create new articles, whatever you like. Have a look at the [[Help:Contents|Help]] page, especially [[VDR_Wiki:First steps|First steps]] and [[VDR_Wiki:Second steps|Second steps]] for an introduction to Wikis and VDR Wiki in particular.

There is no priority list for translation and most of the existing documents are somewhat outdated. You are free to choose.

I've done a couple of articles as a tester - Common Interface and Conditional Access Module - but I'm having a couple of problems with links and images. Firstly, is there any way to link to the images already uploaded to the German wiki? It doesn't make sense to me that I should have to upload them again to the English wiki when they already exist in the German wiki and don't change. Secondly, on the CAM page I've tried linking to the relevant pages in the German wiki for the CAM descriptions, since these pages don't contain text. However, I can't get the links to work, even using the syntax <nowiki>[[de:VDR Wiki:pagename]]</nowiki>. Maybe you could have a look and tell me what I'm doing wrong. Thanks.

Hello

Very nice, your work is much appreciated.

Sorry, but interwiki images aren't possible, they have to be uploaded again ;-(. We have the same problems with articles (such as scripts), we can link to them, but can't display the in this wiki, although they are the same in both wikis.

I corrected your links. Your links worked, but not the way you intended it. To make language links inline, you have to prepend a ":", like <nowiki>[[:de:VDR Wiki:pagename]]</nowiki>.

Thanks for your work. --[[User:Monroe|Monroe]] 00:29, 8 Apr 2005 (CEST)

Hi

I've tried uploading one of the image files, but I get the following errors:
<pre>
Warning: mkdir(/var/www/vdrwiki/images/0/0b): Permission denied in /var/www/vdrwiki/includes/GlobalFunctions.php on line 489
Warning: move_uploaded_file(/var/www/vdrwiki/images/0/0b/3,5-Zoll-ci.jpg): failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /var/www/vdrwiki/includes/SpecialUpload.php on line 312
Warning: move_uploaded_file(): Unable to move '/tmp/phpEoSa5R' to '/var/www/vdrwiki/images/0/0b/3,5-Zoll-ci.jpg' in /var/www/vdrwiki/includes/SpecialUpload.php on line 312
</pre>

Looks fairly trivial, but obviously nothing I can do anything about...

Please try again. I checked the permissions and did a successful image upload. Everything should be OK. If not, please let me know and post the error message, then i will try something else.

I found the answer - the English wiki doesn't like the comma in the file name, whereas this is obviously not a problem for the German wiki. Renamed the files and they upload fine.

Where did i wrote that? ->[[Remote control]]?? ''(ATI USB Remote Wonder)''

I just translated that article, i have no experiences with it, but the more detailed article in the german wiki says it work. Also there is a thread (german) in the vdr-portal with some success stories

Translation

Hi Monroe

I'm a professional German>English translator and I was wondering if I could help you out with translating articles from German to English or proofreading existing translations in the Wiki. The thing is, I'm a complete newbie when it comes to working with Wikis, so I'm not sure how to go about the work. Is there a priority list anywhere as to what needs translating most urgently? Do you use any form of translation memory to automate translation of updated material?

Look forward to hearing from you - iwan.davies at translutions dot co dot uk

Iwan
