On this page you will find information regarding ATSC PCI cards.

Supported ATSC PCI Cards

The following table lists the confirmed working ATSC PCI cards and provides a brief summary of their features and components.

In addition to this list,

  • there are several cards that may actually work with existing drivers, but no reports have yet been provided. If you have such a non-listed but working device please do report your success (either here and/or on the dvb-mailing list). Your contribution would be greatly appreciated, and would allow for developers to add your device's definitions to the current drivers, so that it may be properly listed/named when detected.
  • if you do not see your card on the list, there may already be experimental support available. Currently, the best source for information on devices with experimental support is found by searching the dvb mailing list achieves (Google works well) or by posting a question about the device directly to the list (but please conduct a search first, as it may already have been discussed).

Note 1: The demodulator supports 64/256-QAM, and it is rumoured that some may have had sucess -- However -- no proof positive examples have materialized. Thus, in the current state of support, it would be prudent to assume that it will not work. Hopefully this can be rectified, as the same frontend works fine in other cases (eg. KWorld 110).
Note 2: The demodulator supports 64/256-QAM, but there apparently was a board level hardware problem that prevented its reception. For more details, see the FusionHDTV3 Gold article.
Note 3: The Flexcop IC's hardware PID filtering capability allows the card to discard unwanted packets from the Transport Stream payload. This typically amounts to saving <10% off the bitrate of a 8-VSB (~19.4 Mbps) or 64-QAM (~27 Mbps) Transport Stream, and >55% of the bitrate of a 256-QAM (~38.8 Mbps) Transport Stream. In other words, the AirStar/Air2PC cards usually consume less PCI and memory bandwidth than the other cards because they have a hardware PID filter. For more details, see the FlexCop article.
Note 4: Although the demodulator supports 64/256-QAM, no Firmware currently exists for such support, as pcHDTV was apparently unable to obtain such licensing from Oren. For more details, see this and this.
Note 5: The demodulator supports 64/256-QAM, but most people report unusually high error rates and are unable to achieve reception. As a result, it is widely circulated that the card will not support QAM, however some users have been successful (for example, see this post). Nonetheless, they are most certainly the exception to the usual case.
Note 6: Has a working comp/s-video port hidden behind the card-plate.
Note 7: An AVerMedia press release (Jan 8 2007, CES) mentions them demonstrating an "updated AVerTVHD MCE A180". It does not indicate what updates have been made to the card.
