AVerMedia is a Taiwanese company that produces and sells many different analog and digital TV devices for personal computers.
They make DVB-T pci cards (the AVerTV DVB-T family) which are well supported in linux in latest kernels, and a DVB-S card (AVerTV DVB-S) whose status I am unsure of.

Some AVerMedia devices are well supported under linux via drivers from the LinuxTV project. AVerMedia, themselves, do not provide direct support for their devices under Linux but for one exception (which itself is a case that is quite limited/constrained in scope). A dialogue with George Chen, AVerMedia Technologies S.L. director, outlines the [http://galindaines.blogspot.com/2007/05/avermedia-i-linux.html company's current position in regards to Linux (Spanish)].
There have been some postings on the linux-dvb Mailinglist that some versions of the AVerMedia DVB-T cards known as ''model 761'' (with Microtune DTF7072 tuner module) have serious sensitivity problems.

This vendor is occasionally explicitly Linux friendly, though most support has been written without their input and we cannot count on their help in resolving problems. Most of their cards are well supported under Linux.
New card revisions called ''model 771'' and ''model 777'' are based on the [[Zarlink MT352|MT352]] Demodulator. These cards work well with the latest kernels (confirmed for at least Australia and Spain). The first few versions of the [[Zarlink MT352|MT352]] driver didn't work so well, so try upgrading if you have problems with tuning. The author (nathanh) has been using a 771 for many months under MythTV. Other autor (Klez) has been using a 777 in Spain with Xine without problems.

Some product pages have a ‘Linux compatible’ label, but the licence in the associated driver that they offer includes the words “The binaries part of AVerMedia Linux Driver is ported from Windows driver and is under some other NDA, so the original source code will not be released.” This suggests that this driver has non-free dependencies, which suggests that this driver will never be included in Linux. Does “is fully supported” in the paragraph above mean “supported so long as you use AVerMedia's out-of-tree driver”, or does it mean “supported in-tree, no need for AVerMedia's own driver” ?

In progress:

Licence issues

Some product pages have a ‘Linux compatible’ label, but the licence in the associated driver that they offer includes the words “The binaries part of AVerMedia Linux Driver is ported from Windows driver and is under some other NDA, so the original source code will not be released.” This suggests that this driver has non-free dependencies, which suggests that this driver will never be included in Linux. Does “is fully supported” in the paragraph above mean “supported so long as you use AVerMedia's out-of-tree driver”, or does it mean “supported in-tree, no need for AVerMedia's own driver” ?
