The ConvertX PVR PX-TV402U is an external USB 2.0 capture device that can encode external analog inputs or analog TV sources to MPEG2/DivX in realtime.

It has a full Linux SDK which has an open license. While the firmware is included with the SDK, this firmware does not have an open license.

Overview/Features

It has a realtime hardware DivX/Xvid, MPEG 1,2,4 encoder; the WISchip GO7007.

It either has a PAL or NTSC tv tuner depending on where it is being sold (US, Europe, China...).

It has:

  • S-Video in,
  • composite in
  • Antenna in .. RF input...
  • it also has a remote control.

There is a similar model, 'ConvertX PX-M402U', that does not include the tv tuner.

In the U.S they have a version with an ntsc tuner. In china Chinese Version they have the TV version, and china uses PAL. Also, Plextor Europe, European Version has the same product. This product is not available in Australia. Australia uses the pal b and pal g standards, Italy also happens to use the same standards, but it is unknown whether the european version (or other) version works in Australia.

There's an article saying it's good here
