If you are experiencing problems with USB devices, it may not be the fault of the tuner. For example AMD 700 series chipsets (e.g. 780G) have a problem with USB ports which results in tuners working or partially working or not working at all. This can be solved by using a separate USB adapter with a reliable chipset (e.g. VIA 6212L, NEC).

A driver fully supporting this device is available in 2.6.22 and later kernels. It currently doesn't work on PowerPC (endianess problems).

The card contains a Cypress CY7C68013A-56PCX to manage the USB part, which seems to control a Xilinx Spartan(R) XC3850 FPGA. The tuner box reads Sharp, but I cannot find out more about it.

I'm able to upload the firmware to turn the device from cold mode to warm USB ID but programming the FPGA still fails.
For my card/driver:
The cold USB ID is: VID 0x04b4 (CYPRESS) PID: 0x2830
The warm USB ID is: VID 0x695C (???????) PID: 0x3829

Despite the fact that all those devices look quite similar and have similar hardware, Siemssen still claims that they are built completely differently and their drivers are not interchangeable.

The following modules are necessary in order to get this device running:

- dvb-usb-vp702x.ko

The driver is still a little work-in-progress. If you want to help the development, please consult the [[linux-dvb-ml|linux-dvb Mailing list]]. The front-end part of the DST driver could be rewritten to be used by the USB driver. Currently it is hard-wired to the PCI cards.

==Firmwares==

==DVB-T USB Devices==
The following tables list the known DVB-T USB devices and provides a brief summary of their features and components. (or at least it should)

If you need more technical information on a device, have a look at its device specific wiki article if there is one.

The device specific article is linked via the device's name but not all are linked yet.
If you find an article (e.g. via the search feature on the left) then please edit the device entry here add that link.

If you are experiencing problems with USB devices, it may not be the fault of the tuner. For example AMD 700 series chipsets (e.g. 780G) have a problem with USB ports which results in tuners working or partially working or not working at all. This can be solved by using a separate USB adapter with a reliable chipset (e.g. VIA 6212L, NEC).

All devices below are fully supported by the LinuxTV driver. The following drivers are needed for these devices:
- dvb-usb.ko
- dvb-usb-dtt200u.ko

These [[frontend|frontend(s)]]/[[demodulator|demodulator(s)]] can be found in various revisions of this device:
- [[Zarlink MT352]]
- The new units use the Zarlink ZL10353 instead of MT352
- for pentype design it is unknown (but it doesn't matter at all)

The programming of the MT352 is hidden behind the USB protocol defined within the firmware. These boxes can only deliver part of the [[TS|Transport Stream]] (using a hardware PID filter); it is not known how to deactivate this. (The driver was completely [[reverse-engineering|reverse-engineered]] without the help of its real vendor (assuming WideView is the manufacturer). '''UPDATE:''' the vendor was so kind to provide information about unknown commands, hence the driver is complete.

There is apparently another Yakumo model not covered:

UPDATE: Realtek submitted a v0.0.2 of their driver feb 20th 2008. This has been confirmed to function for this Freecom (or Conceptronic) stick with usb id: 14aa:0160 on a 2.6.22.17 kernel. This stick has a MT2061F tuner chip, but this driver also supports the MLX5005 tuner chip. No additional firmware file is needed.

The driver source can be downloaded from [http://www.megaupload.com/?d=DPE2C8I5], but be aware it has only be confirmed to work on devices with usb id 14aa:0160, and is not compatible with the current code base.

UPDATE: "Anttip" linuxtv HG [http://linuxtv.org/hg/~anttip/] repository has EC168 development drivers (not yet part of 2.6.31.1 Kernel v4l drivers), which work with EC168 based dvb-t sticks (18b4:1689 device id). Numerous other re-branded sticks use the same chipset.

Both tuners built into this USB stick are now fully working with Ubuntu 9.10 (kernel 2.6.31-14, SMP), IR receiver has not been tested. You may need to set the module options set as below but using a good USB interface this may not be necessary (see below). You need a good antenna plugged into '''both''' of the tuner inputs (normal antenna socket at the end, and also into the little coax socket in the side of the USB stick- adapter leads with the tricky little coax connector are available on your favourite auction site). Issues with both tuners being active seem to have been resolved by avoiding the use of the AMD motherboard USB ports, and plugging the tuner into a separate USB adapter (NEC chipset based, VIA 6212L would likely work as well).

In Mythtv the tuners are set up to 15000 msec timeouts, approx 1000ms tuning delay, Quick tuning set to Always, and "use for EIT" unchecked. Now that the stick is working properly attached to the new USB ports this may also be unecessary.

You need to have device driver module options set as follows. I also have a DVICO card which uses ''dib0700'' driver and there seem to be no bad side-effects to the options being set as below.

If you are wondering why I have (again) removed your edits about the cx2388x capture abilities, its because you are missing a point of distinction:

* the IC is primarily an A/V decoder (i.e. it does analog to digital conversion)
* digital tv consists of a MPEG2 Transport Stream (i.e. its already digital ... no analog to digital conversion is required)
* in regards to digital tv, the cx2388x acts only as a bridge -- it accepts the MPEG2 TS and places it on the PCI bus
* the capture window that you keep referencing is STRICTLY in regards to an analog signal ... this does NOT apply to a digital TV signal
* that last point leads me to believe that you are confusing a compressed format decoder, such as a MPEG2 decoder vs. an A/V decoder ... they are NOT the same thing

OK thanks yes rereading the specs that makes sense.... so something else on the board was not capable of passing the bandwidth required for HDTV signals (card was clearly marked SDTV ie up to 576p). The problem is that I *CAN* receive the HDTV transmissions but the video stream is juddering - starts, stops. I think something on the card can't handle full 1080i/720p bandwidth. I can see the same thing with my old settop box- it was great for SD but same problem with HD transmissions, start/stop/start/stop. The kWorld card was only ever sold as an SD card (capable of up to 576p). It doesn't really matter, I have a new system build not, which only has 1 PCI slot, and I've put in a new dual tuner HDTV capable card. Thanks for your help though!

First of all, you need a quite recent kernel.
The v4l-dvb tree is backwards compatible with recent vanilla kernels.
Kernel version 2.6.10 or later is required to build the dvb modules, and version 2.6.12 or later is required to build support for hybrid devices.
If you configured the kernel manually, please note that some capabilities should be enabled like EVDEV.
Stock kernels usually have everything required.
You also need to install the kernel-source package to have kernel headers.

== Install Mercurial ==

V4L and DVB kernel modules are available via Mercurial.

To acquire the latest sources, you must first have mercurial installed (which requires python 2.3).
Some Linux distributions already include it. In Debian, just do "apt-get install mercurial".

If your distribution doesn't include it, you can download a

If compilation fails on v4l-dvb/v4l/dvb_net.c with errors (kernel 2.6.17):

Then edit the v4l-dvb/v4l/dvb_net.c file, go to the error lines and replace this text:

by this one:

The compilation should now continue.

At this point, check to see if your device is working. Usually, the make install will install the modules in the kernel module folder, which will autoload the drivers on boot. I ran the below commands and it locked up my box and caused problems. For example, do...

On old kernels (2.6.22 and older) there is a set of device drivers which will not compile as they require later kernel for the devices to be supported, and this will result in compilation errors. These can be fixed by disabling the compilation of unneeded (ones that require newer kernel) modules

Still it seems that for kernels older than 2.6.20 the compatibility may have been broken. ( If you figure out a way to compile on 2.6.17 put it here. I updated my kernel to 2.6.20 after trying a while)

All conflicting *.ko.gz files must be removed. The following command line can help you locate these conflicting files in all your installed kernels:

Usually all conflicting module files resulting of v4l-dvb installation will be located in:

/lib/modules/[your kernel version]/kernel/drivers/media

Once the conflicting *.ko.gz have been moved elsewhere or renamed (to *.ko.gz.disabled for example), use the v4l-dvb reload command (I usually add a depmod for safety in order to rebuild modules dependencies):

make reload
depmod -a

Your modules should now be loaded correctly.

Another reason for this issue is because your symbolic link for /lib/modules/<kernel-version>/build is broken. Before running make, remove the link and create a new pointing to the right location.

The "Diversity" option is a hardware based feature that allows for the device's two receivers to be configured in a combined use mode to achieve better reception on a single channel. The diversity feature of the DiBcom demodulators is currently not implemented in the Linux-DVB drivers, so only the dual tuner configuration is presently supported on such devices [http://www.linuxtv.org/pipermail/linux-dvb/2007-July/019419.html].

=== Specific Remote control support ===

There is no need to compile and load any lirc modules; the remote is detected along with the tuner and is registered as a USB input device. If you are using udev or devfs then this means that the device should be linked to one of the /dev/input/event* device nodes and a simple rule will create a named symlink.

If you do want to use lircd then you will need to use irrecord to generared a config file as the existing files do not match the Nova-TD remote. irrecord will fail if you obey its instructions and hold down an arbitrary key; instead, when you are told to hold an arbitrary key, press an arbitrary key repeatedly (the same one, not different ones each time) until irrecord reports that it has found the gap length.

As long as the evdev module is loaded, the remote will be treated as a usb keyboard and this means that you can avoid using lirc. Many of the keys generate keycodes which are not mapped to anything, by default, in X; you can use xev to find the keycodes and xmodmap to map them to useful symbols. Unfortunately, some keys generate keycodes that X doesn't seem to recognise at all (on my set-up, at least) and the device does not support keymaps, or this would be easy to fix.

=== Low power muxes ===

At least two people have indicated on the mailing list ([http://linuxtv.org/pipermail/linux-dvb/2008-April/025309.html 8 April 2008] and [http://linuxtv.org/pipermail/linux-dvb/2008-April/025420.html 12 April 2008]) that trouble picking up reception on low power muxes can be helped by adding an attenuator. It is thought that this may be caused by the internal amplifier taking in to account the strongest muxes only. Weakening the overall signal appears to increase the amplification of all muxes, so improving reception.
