hi,

you can start dma support automatically (without calling hdparm)

1. you can activate the dma support in the kernel (i think: "Block-Device/Enable DMA support for IDE drives", driver > 2.2.16 & > 2.4.x)

or

2. in /etc/rc.config (SuSE 7.0) is a flag for specifiying the drives for dma suport

(My linux-vdr is at home, i am at work .. so i can't tell you the correct names from mind)
