Hi all,

I am fairly new to linuxtv and especially to this mailing list so
please do not hesitate to point me towards any FAQs or posting
policies. 

I just recently got a new Hauppauge DVB-S card (no loop-thru,
instead remote control and SPDIF-out).  As a note to these of you which
are thinking about getting a hauppauge card: The box does not mention 
any of the new or missing old features.  

As mentioned by the original poster, the driver compiled and loaded as
expected, but I got no picture (despite the greeting message during
initialisation and the on-screen display of vdr). I digged my way into
source and found that it was due to the fact that autodetecting of the
tuner type fails. 

The only relevant message besides of "tuner type not set" was one like  
"tuner: chip found @ 0x68" from tuner_attach().  I tried to manually set
the tuner type to [1..16] but no avail.

I just phoned Hauppauge Tecnichal Support who asked me to call 
Technotrend directly.  Technotrend technical support certified 
that a new tuner type was introduced in production and said that
they will consider to cooperate with linuxtv.org regarding the
specs of this new board design and, if so, contact the core 
developers directy.  From this phone call I got the impression as 
though they are going to discontinue the old board design completely.  
So it seems as sooner or later most of the new DVB-s boards on the 
market will be based on this new(?) tuner, regardless the marketing
lable.

The next step for me will be to examine the tuner chip on the card
and to see whether any information regarding this chip can be found
in the public domain.

I _really_ want this card to run with linux.  If you have any
suggestion what to do and/or if you need any information regarding
this card, feel free to contact me directly.
