[linux-dvb] Networking filesystems and vdr

Hello,

unfortunately I don't know when it started, but for some time now, I have
severe problems with vdr. My /video is NFS-mounted over a 100MBit Fast
Ethernet and the traffic on the net is really low. (I tried SMBfs today as
well, but it showed the same problems). After recording for some time (how
long varies from 4 minutes to over an hour) I get

Aug 3 15:49:13 chewie vdr[16557]: buffer usage: 76%
Aug 3 15:49:13 chewie last message repeated 36 times
Aug 3 15:49:13 chewie vdr[16557]: buffer usage: 77%
Aug 3 15:49:14 chewie last message repeated 49 times
Aug 3 15:49:14 chewie vdr[16557]: buffer usage: 78%
....
Aug 3 15:49:30 chewie vdr[16557]: buffer usage: 100%
Aug 3 15:49:34 chewie vdr[16557]: ERROR (dvbapi.c,532): Unknown error 769
Aug 3 15:49:38 chewie vdr[16557]: ERROR (dvbapi.c,532): Unknown error 769

After the last message, vdr stops writing anything to the files. The timer
is still active, but nothing happens. After restarting vdr it continues
recording.

I already increased the VDR buffer size to 5MB, but if it made a
difference at all, the problem starts maybe a little later and the buffer
usage increases more slowly.

I know vdr cannot do anything about a server not responding, it seems
after it reached 100% it stops completely and doesn't try again.

What I also think is strange, sometimes there is a gap between increased
buffer usage:

Aug 3 04:01:24 chewie vdr[860]: buffer usage: 95%
Aug 3 04:01:25 chewie last message repeated 49 times
Aug 3 04:01:25 chewie vdr[860]: buffer usage: 96%
Aug 3 04:01:25 chewie last message repeated 46 times
Aug 3 04:01:25 chewie vdr[860]: buffer usage: 97%
Aug 3 04:01:25 chewie last message repeated 7 times
Aug 3 04:25:52 chewie vdr[860]: buffer usage: 97%
Aug 3 04:25:52 chewie last message repeated 40 times
Aug 3 04:25:52 chewie vdr[860]: buffer usage: 98%
Aug 3 04:25:53 chewie last message repeated 50 times
Aug 3 04:25:53 chewie vdr[860]: buffer usage: 99%
Aug 3 04:25:53 chewie last message repeated 46 times
Aug 3 04:25:53 chewie vdr[860]: buffer usage: 100%
Aug 3 04:25:56 chewie vdr[860]: ERROR (dvbapi.c,532): Unknown error 769
Aug 3 04:26:25 chewie last message repeated 5 times

There is a 24 minutes gap in there and vdr seemingly didn't decrease the
buffer usage during this period. Should it flush the buffer if the
bandwidth is available?

Does anybody have a working setup where vdr saves its files over the
network?

cu,
Lars
