AC3 or LPCM tracks? (i know that info is not (yet) displayed in vdr, try
ifo_dump from libdvdread and look for the audio information.

2-channel Dobly Surround Downmix, look at ac3dec/downmix.c. I don't now
anything about ac3, any hint and help there is welcome. Newer versions
of ac3dec do use a slightly different approach there, but there library
interface is not suited for cdr needs.

There is a patch that implemented your trickmode things for DVD in
0.85pre4. have a look at <http://grail.warp10.net/dvd/vdr-0.85-as3.patch.gz>
