[linux-dvb] Thoughts: embedding of AC3 into a linear PCM stream?

Hi,

just an idea which come in mind if one connects a CD or
DVD player over S/PDIF to an A/V receiver which knows how
to decode DTS and plays DTS CDs (not DVDs):

Is it possible to embed an AC3 stream into linear PCM?

This works for DTS therefore it may also be possible for AC3.
The question which remains in the case of the DVB card with
the AV7110/7111 and Audio/PCM sub processors onboard:

Is it possible to get such an PCM embedded AC3 stream through
the AV7110/7111 and Audio/PCM sub processors upto the S/PDIF
  connector?

I found in the specs of the AV7110/7111 that there is something
like a PCM bypass(?) of 16 bit PCM ... does this work, and if it
does, how could it be used to get PCM embedded AC3 to the S/PDIF?
The next question which naturally occurs:

Is it possible to extract the AC3 stream from a MPEG2 multiplex
and embed it into a new PCM stream as a replacement for the
  original AC3 stream at runtime?

...

         Werner
