[linux-dvb] Re: vdr 0.90 patches: trickmode,jump,...

huels@iname.com(Stefan Huelswitt) 12.08.01 23:45

Once upon a time Stefan Huelswitt shaped the electrons to say...

>> How do i use "jump to"?

>Have a look at the new 0.91 which has the jump feature included.
>There is a description in the manual.

Great. It was not clear that this is already integrated in 0.91
so i hesitated to update.

Jepp. That was not meant.
I think of speeds in the range between 1.1 to 1.9 resp. 0.6 to 0.9.
Not such a beast like 3.14515 or 0.234 ;-)

"Slightly slower" or "slightly faster".

If you are watching TV to become informed about something
it may save a lot time if that informational film tooks
only 30min and not 45min (because one exected more infos but
the info was crap)
And: One can hear faster than (most) others can speak ;-)
(It's really no joke)

Or:
Imagine a language course:
"What did they say"?
Rewind, too much, wait till
forward, missed.
Pressing "pause" and the last 3sec sound are repeated until
next press of "pause".
Or:
Let's hear it with slower speed if there is a "d" or "w"..

The speeds need not to be hit exactly.
But: double speed is too fast and half speed is to slow.
I saw it implemented in the nickles recorder too.

Once upon a while ;-) I brought a JVC HR-DD858EH video recorder
only because of this feature:
Fastforward, pause, rewind: -> with sound!
Really please believe me: it's great!

They call it -very misleading- "time scan". But that (analog)
device could only do 2x...9x. (They adjust the video drum
angle "on the fly" (similar as Video 2000 did/tried once)
to hold the track. So they got entire error free still/wind images
and have a error free (HiFi) audio signal too. Always.

Finding a location inside a film is much easier with
ear. The eyes can relax meanwhile. Especially when the
sequence to skip is lengthly it is very stressing for the
eyes.
Of cause "jumping" is much easier and faster on a digital
disc recorder than on a tape: So imagine a
"jump-a-little/play-a-little""jump-a-little/play-a-little"
"sequence automatic".
I think that may do what i meant. Some attention might be payed
to merge the two audio probes to avoid peaks which might kill
the tweeters (and users ears ;-)))

If you once had such a audio feeback during winding,
you would not like to miss it ;-)
Give it a try.
