Since you wrote that you are using kernel 2.4.0 (same as I do) it makes sense that
I try to reproduce such a hangup here on my system.
Does the hangup also occur if you use some other program?
For example
vdr -a"cat > /dev/null"
or does it _have_ to be ac3dec?
