since yesterdy my vdr box boots from lan perfectly and it wasn't that
difficult. at the moment it works like this:
bootprom is loaded from floppy (~30KB) (no eprom at the momement)
bootprom initilizes NIC and fetches ip address and name of kernel via
dhcp
kernel gets loaded via tftp
kernel boots and mounts / over nfs
kernel starts init which is only a script that loads the modules, starts
lircd, vdr and a bash for playing around a bit.
at tha moment i only copied my old dvb drivers and old vdr 0.7x to the
nfs-root dir cause i couldn't get the new drivers to work :-( but my new
setup will allow upgrading kernel, drivers and vdr without touching the
settopbox directly and this is very cool! :-)
if you decide to do it this way, you can ask me for details ...
so long ...
