[linux-dvb] Re: Entering file names ...

Hi there,

this is an issue I#ve been thinking about for some time now. I believe the
whole thing isn't about "entering file names" but about lack of quality of
the EPG.

Some channels are really making an effort to do a good job, some other
completly ignore the existence of EPG.

One of the most appaeling features of a vdr is the easieness of programming
(in comparison with VCRs). So the way it is today with the EPG is not quite
acceptable.

How do we change this? Lure the stations into maintaining the EPG? This
seems to be the hard way.

I'm thinking of another way and I'd like to know what you are thinking about
the idea.

Why not having a program-schedule (TV-Guide) like we all know it printed,
with all the stuff like cast, rating, pictures, abstracts etc.

You could do anything with it but distributing it (only private use), like
searching for your favourite actor, series, repetitions and using it in your
home network etc.

Are you willing to pay, say 5 Euro/month (like you pay for your TV-Guide
already), for a commercial epg subscription? (Wait, this is my idea but I
have no affiliation whatsoever with any company).

I would, so I sent out some emails and I'm awaiting the reactions from
tv-movie, tvtv and tvinfo. Some a promising.

Also eagerly awaiting your opinion,

bye, Benjamin
