[linux-dvb] API and documentation

Hi,

this week we made another little change to the frontend API.
I added a field for setting the spectral inversion.
The old frontend (VES1893) supported automatic detection
of this, the new frontend (STV0299) and probably others which
might be used on future hardware do not.
To make tuning of channels with spectral inversion more reliable
applications should add an appropriate parameter to their
channel lists and use it when tuning.

The API documentation is now part of the driver tree in CVS.
LaTeX sources of the document can be found in DVB/doc/dvbapi.
PDF versions are on http://www.linuxtv.org/download/dvb/
and http://www.linuxtv.org/developer/dvbapi.xml.
The documentation is far from finished. Comments and
suggestions are welcome.

We are also working on moving all the tuning code into a
separate module (dvb_frontend.c). This will make it easier
to use the code with other hardware and for others to make
contributions to just the tuning code.
I don't know if this will be finished before our vacation.
In case I do add it tonight please consider it to be very
experimental.

And speaking of vacation, we (Marcus and I) will be on vacation
for the next 3 weeks. Don't be surprised if there are no answers
to e-mails and no driver updates.

Ralph
