[linux-dvb] Re: AW: HDTV & DVB / VDR (dscaler ..)
I made the same experience:
Once you get started with DVB you are very happy to have all features
VDR provides: Playing/Recording TV Channels, Pay-TV Decoding, DVD
Encryption ...
Than you do one more step
IR Control (Lirc)
LCD display
and you want more ...
analog channels, MP3, Channel programming via Web(-Server)
wakeonlan, Videotext, progressive scan/deinterlacing, CD recording, AC3,
WWW Services (EMail etc.)
I have a complete equipment (Yamaha DSP-A1, Surround-Set, Davis Cinema
One, Sony DVD-735, DBox1, PC/Soundcard/2xDVB-C/Matrox Marvel 400TV) but
i really loose setting up a PC/linux stuff in a usable way (should I
really setup a second (Windows-) box for scaling ?)
Meanwhile a have some more IR-receivers, soundcards, VGA Adapters etc.
due this trial and error procedure ;-(
And there was a time I also tried out W2K
A software/hardware compatibility list / recommendation would be a great
idea like
CardDriver:
Siemens DVB http:/xxxxxxxxxx
Playing/Recording:
vdr (V.xyz) runs best with Siemens DVB (Firmware x.yz)
DVD:
Pioneer xxx you will need xyz from http:/xxxxxxx
Sound:
Yamaha Digital XP install latest driver form http:/xxxxxxxxx
Hint when you upgrade your kernel:
xxxxxxxx
Note for installing with alsa:
xxxxxxxx
start vdr with this command line:
xxxxxxxx
etc.
You have to visit a number of sites, read a lot of documentation, buy a
lot of hardware just to see that your configuration is not working or
your knowhow is more than incomplete.
For sure I'm not the only one who has spent a lot of time in this DVB
topic and who is bored about his system not running 'state of the art'
Is anybody out there interested on a Web-PaGE (eg. with "FAQOMATIC") to
put all these experiences together / build this "state of the art" HTPC?
Regards
Uwe
