I wasn't complaining, merely wondering why. Still am in fact :)

On a more general note, I tend to think that splitting a project like
this sometimes creates a situation where people tend to be re-inventing
the wheel most of the time, instead of maximizing the development effort.
However, I do not no why this was done for the driver so I can't and do
not have anything bad/good to say about it.
